Maestro Roshan Bhartiya Biography & Curriculum Vitae

One of the foremost sitar players of his generation, Roshan began his performance career at the age of 10 for the All India Radio Children’s program. Since then he has performed extensively throughout India, Europe and the United States, as well as in Africa and Israel. With his father and guru, Jamaluddin Bhartiya, Roshan founded schools both in India and Amsterdam. For years, their school in Amsterdam was the largest presenter of Indian music in Europe. Roshan has also been very active composing and playing music for the Bombay Film Industry (Bollywood). Roshan’s performances are marked by his enthusiasm, soaring lyricism and generosity of spirit, noted in his ability to connect with audiences, both educated listeners and novices.

In the year 2000, Roshan accepted an invitation by the Aeolian Art and Music Association of Denver Colorado to become a “cultural ambassador” of Classical Indian Music for Colorado and the Mountain States. Since then, Roshan has taught and performed at numerous universities, including Naropa University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, the University of Wyoming, College of Santa Fe, University of Denver, Denver Metropolitan University, Rock Springs Community College, Colorado College, and Northern Arizona University. In addition, he
has given presentations for students of all ages in public and private school settings. He currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
